Adoption Update 4.30.24

It is the end of April, which signifies the end of another school year is coming to a close. It is hard to believe in a little over three weeks, I will say goodbye to another round of students and transition to staying home. A lot of different plans and ideas are developing. Still, we are learning to slow down our pace and intentionally build purpose and rest in the hectic day-to-day reality.

Completed Tasks this Month:

  • Homestudy (yay!)
  • We are active (meaning a birth family can choose us)
  • Webpage activated (link here)
  • Profile PDF completed
  • Fundraising (we have paid off our home study & Lifetime Adoption)

In process:

  • Video
  • Cleaning & decluttering our home
  • Learning about adoption
  • Learning how to use our smoker (Frank made a yummy pulled pork)

Adoption Education Corner: Open Adoption

Many people have asked if our adoption will be an open adoption. Most likely, yes! USA adoptions typically are open adoptions, meaning there is an opportunity to contact the birth mother, birth father, and extended family members. To be more specific, it is typically with the birth mother, but families and birth fathers may want to keep in touch with the adoptive family. Email, phone calls, letters, photos, videos, and visits are typical. Many children who have been adopted will know their adoption story, and be exposed to their story from an early age. Imagine being able to ask questions of your birth family and know about why you were adopted and your medical history, or to ask questions your adoptive family may not be able to answer. Healthily, this type of adoption can be a way of showing this child that they are wanted, loved, and chosen.
